Screening Criteria

 

 

We practice what we preach in terms of transparency, so we’re putting it all out there. Here’s what we look for during the Screening Process, from the big picture to the very simple.

To qualify for the Seal of Approval, companies must demonstrate that they:

  • Actively use their businesses as tools for positive community services;
  • Run "values-driven" enterprises that operate according to principles of social justice and environmental sustainability;
  • Are socially and economy responsible in the way they source, manufacture, and market their products and run their offices and factories;
  • Are committed to developing and employing extraordinary practices that benefit workers, customers, communities, and the environment.
  • Are holistic, intentional, and transparent in their approach to social/environmental  and community responsibility.

Now, let’s get specific. We start by looking at a company’s core work. So here’s the whole deal – our current Seal of Approval Screening considers standards for all the businesses that we partner with.

 

Baseline Standards

  • Operates with transparency, excellent service, and maintains high standards of business ethics with customers
  • Has public statement on website regarding community/social justice standards
  • Does not engage in predatory lending
  • Excellent and quick problem solving for customers
  • No profanity in marketing material
  • Serves all socioeconomic communities equally
  • Always re-evaluating to see how they can increase growth
  • Uses local people to staff event and pays living wage
  • Products are well-made and safe (for people, animals, and the environment);
  • Product or service is long-lasting and with performance guaranteed;
  • Designed so as not to become obsolete (to the extent this can be anticipated).
  • Fulfil a genuine customer need.
  • Demonstration that product(s) is produced free from pesticides, herbicides, and artificial fertilizers.
  • Avoid the use of negative stereotypes;

Preferences

  • Works with community development banks and local credit unions
  • Demonstrated history of doing business with diverse customer base
  • Sensitivity to subprime lending issue
  • Discounts to non-profits or small businesses
  • The "themes" of the products are related to social and/or community issues
  • Facilitate transportation such as ride sharing.
  • Educate the public and consumers about different cultural
  • values as appropriate.
  • Recognize diversity in its programs, policies, and practices (including hiring).
